why travel for change ?
Volunteering abroad lets you make personal contribution at the global level. It is a life-changing experience to be immersed in a foreign culture and exchange ideas with people you would not otherwise meet. Sharing your time, energy and skills allows you to enrich the lives of others and the creativity, strength, and dedication of the local people you work with will truly inspire you. Along with providing you with a unique learning opportunity, Travel for Change - Outer Limits program promotes the revival of a village’s local economy, supports vulnerable individuals and groups in India, and contributes to the sustainability of Scadding Court’s Outer Limits Program, which provides Canadian youth with a life-changing experience that challenges everyday thinking, translates into real skills and helps with personal development and long-term life plans.
volunteering WITH SENIORSAs India becomes increasingly urbanized, young generations are leaving the villages to seek work in the cities. This leaves many elders behind on their own in villages. Because many elders in Vallipuram – Thirukalkundram Taluk struggle with having enough food to eat. The program’s current focus is on the implementation of a food delivery program and support of vulnerable seniors.

volunteering at the school
300 students attend the village school. As a rural school, staffing levels are minimal and resources scarce.
Volunteer activities include working with children to support their learning, organizing recreational activities, teaching children how to use a computer, painting murals, upgrades to the school facility and more.
A variety of volunteer opportunities, most working with children, are also available in the nearby city of Chennai.

"I had the opportunity to work with a few different schools, teaching English and painting murals with a group of eight young individuals who became my good friends. During our days off there was a beautiful beach and many different stores where we could go shopping. We also participated in a few side trips which allowed us to see more of India’s diversity. Overall I feel that I contributed to helping improve the lives of underprivileged youths in India, and that I came home a more mature and aware individual.”
