How to get started
If you are interested in Travel for Change - Outer Limits, there are three easy steps to get you started

Fill out an application form and return it to Ali at Scadding Court. |

Book a time for an interview when you drop off your application. |
How does the selection process work?
The process is not competitive -- Participants are selected on their own merits.
Motivation, interest and attitude are keys to success.
In order to join the Outer Limits program, you will need to fill out an application form and come to a brief (45 minute) interview where we will ask some questions in order to get to know you a bit better. At this interview, you are encouraged to ask us any questions that you have about the program and the experience.
We hope to find a good mix of people from different backgrounds and experiences.
When will I meet the group that I’ll be traveling with?
Once you have been accepted to the Travel for Change -Outer Limits program, the training sessions will begin almost immediately.
Family and significant others are welcome to attend this meeting where we will provide an overview of the program, and volunteering in India. This is where you will meet the Outer Limits–India 2010 - 2011 team.

Pre-departure Training
In pre-departure training, you will learn about the program, cultural sensitivity and cross-cultural communication as well as personal development and India specific information. A large focus of these sessions will be on training and preparedness so that you have the tools you need to make the most of your stay in India.
Phase I: Pre-departure Training (2 and 1/2 months- two nights a week) |

| - | Basic training on culture, language, social structures, health, etc… |
| - | Introduction to international development issues (gender, economics, ethics…) |
| - | First Aid and CPR certification |
| - | Skills training in areas identified by the group and the group leaders |
| - | Match participants with volunteer placements |
| - | Identify personal values and goals |
Phase II: Overseas Experience (full-time for 3 months) |

| - | 4-5 days per week volunteering in your placement |
| - | Structured and unstructured individual and group activities … |
| - | Ongoing individual and group discussion informed by new experiences, perspectives, skills and interests gained while in India |
| - | Occasional local travel in India |
Phase III: Re-integration (part-time for 1 month) |

| - | Reflection/debriefing and reintegration into Canada |
| - | Structured and unstructured individual and group activities |
| - | Project evaluation |

As a volunteer, you will be able to make a direct, personal contribution to the education of young people and exchange your culture, food and ideas with the families in South India.
In doing so, you will have an unforgettable experience in a new and fascinating world.
