Support for Children, Youth and Families

Children and their families are the heart of our day to day work. We offer a wide range of informal and formal supports to promote healthy child development, positive family environments and contribute to safe, secure and happy childhoods.

SCCC works with children, families and caregivers at all ages and stages of life. Many of our participants develop long-term relationships with SCCC and it is not unusual to meet a summer camp councillor whose relationship with SCCC began when they were an infant attending our childcare program. Continuity creates a feeling of ‘family’ at SCCC that is further supported by our work in:

Providing personal and practical support to parents and caregivers, for example through Parenting 1234 and Family Drop-In
Our one-of-a-kind Emergency & Occasional Childcare, which provides flexible, affordable childcare so that parents can go to appointments, take a class or simply have a break
Creating welcoming and fun spaces for families to come together, for example at Indoor Park
Promoting educational success, for example in School Readiness, Family Math, Family Literacy etc.
Providing a safe, supervised, positive and fun place for children to be through our After-School Program, Summer Day Camp and more
Providing a consistent and supportive environment for the transition from childhood to youth, for example by engaging local youth as mentors and staff for children’s programs.
