Our work is focused on making this community a better place to be, and on collaborating with and supporting others who want to do the same. At the heart of all of our activities lies the hope and belief that it is possible to create social, economic and cultural conditions that give everyone an equal chance of health and success.
Most issues that people, groups or communities face are multi-layered and have individual, community-wide as well as societal / systemic dimensions. For this reason Scadding Court is committed to being active on different levels.
In addition to providing services and programs, we therefore strive to build community capacity and support people interested in working toward local and “big picture” social change. Much of that work is happening around the issues of diversity, discrimination, racism and social exclusion. For examples of how we are doing this click here.
Along with providing programs, services and a supportive and comfortable place to be, we believe that community centres have an important role to play in facilitating, supporting, participating in and even initiating activities that contribute to social change.
As we move into the future, we will continue to engage community members and partners in helping us to identify ways to bring different levels of activity together. Our Board, staff and volunteers are committed not only to listen but to hear what community members want and need, and to working collaboratively to achieve those goals. To that end we invite and encourage you to approach us at any time with your hopes, visions and dreams for this community and for the society in which we all live together. |
