| Who? | Children at Ryerson Community School |
| What? | SCCC has taken over the nutrition program at Ryerson Community School and starting in September 2012 will offer a FREE breakfast, FREE universal snack for all students and a lunch for only $2/day. Along with nutritious food, we provide nutrition education, cooking demonstrations, gardening activities and recreation during the meal times. |
| Why? | Well-nourished children perform better in school. Giving food to students who need it is one of the best ways to promote school success. Additionally, generally the health of our children is declining as a result of inappropriate food and lack of exercise. This is a holistic program that promotes healthy lifestyles from a young age. |

Mentors will be chosen based on their common interests with the particular child. Activities, ranging from cooking to reading to trips to the Science Centre, will be tailored to the child’s needs and interests. Themes can include: nutrition, cultural appreciation, physical activity, literacy, creativity, goal setting, behaviour modelling and more. The program will have a thread of science running through it to help, in a fun way, to strengthen the child’s understanding of that subject. |
